Hey Book Club!

This May marks the end of my time with the UMN Book Club after three years on the board & two serving as president. It’s been a pleasure getting to know all of you during our book discussions, bookish socials and bookstore adventures. I’ve been an avid reader since I was very young and I’m so grateful for the community that hobby has brought me at the U.

Through book club, I’ve explored new genres, authors and read some of my favorite books of all time thanks to your recommendations! As we part ways, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite titles I hope you’ll consider picking up as you make your way through college too:

The Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu– Short stories that stretch all conventions of traditional genre. Ari’s recommendation!

The Idiot by Elif Batuman– A must-read for your freshman year (or if you haven’t, it’s not too late!) Theresa’s recommendation!

To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf– My favorite book of all time! A powerful reminder to enjoy the journey and celebrate the little things along the way.

Book Club Kits
The University Book Club has worked closely with the University Libraries, to build a collection of book club and buddy reading kits available for anyone at UMN to check out. The kits are available to check out TODAY at Wilson Library on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Ways to access our current book selection:

• Buy the book at a 20% discount from the UMN Bookstore (either in-person or online) Note: The discount is automatically applied when you check out.

• Borrow a physical copy from UMN Libraries or using the Interlibrary Loan service

• Borrow via the UMN Libraries Libby, the book club has our own collection!

• Public Libraries:

  • Hennepin County Library: Library cards are free and Arvonne Fraser Library is located just a few blocks from campus, in Dinkytown

  • Ramsey County Library: Library cards are free and the Roseville Library is about a 10 minute drive from the St. Paul campus

• The Book House: Used book store in Dinkytown
